Stage 3 · Lesson 5 of 7
Expectations often carry love and real limits
When family expects a certain degree, career or move, it is rarely only control. Often it carries love, fear and real constraints: money for fees, being the eldest who will support others, a family business, worry about stability in a hard economy, or what the community will say.
Seeing this does not mean you must do what is expected, but it changes the conversation from "me against them" to "we want some of the same things". Try to write down what your parents or elders actually fear and hope for you, in their words.
You may find more room than you thought. The Family expectations and your own path roadmap at /roadmaps/family-expectations/ goes deeper into the conversation itself.
