Stage 7 · Lesson 1 of 7
Boundaries with respect
A boundary is a limit on what you will do or discuss, said calmly and kept consistently. It is not a punishment and not a demand that others change. For example: "I will always listen to your advice, but the final decision about my studies is mine."
Or: "I am happy to talk about marriage next year, but not every day before my exams." Say it kindly, explain it once, and then hold it without anger, repeating it as often as needed. You can keep respect, warmth and family duties while keeping a boundary.
Common trapannouncing a boundary in a fight and then dropping it the next day. That teaches everyone the boundary is not real.
