Family expectations and your own path

Boundaries, independence and hard choices

Keep handy

Before moving on: One boundary written and practised, a six-month plan towards earning part of your own costs, an honest view of your hardest choice with its costs, and a small regular way to stay connected to your family whatever happens.

Tauseef's advice
Independence and closeness are not opposites. The people who come through this best usually earn some of their own money, say no kindly and consistently, never lie about what they are doing, and keep calling home. Give it years, not weeks.

Struggling right now? If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, contact local emergency services or a crisis line: Find a helpline (any country), Umang (Pakistan), Tele-MANAS, 14416 (India).
