Stage 3 · Lesson 6 of 7
Comparison on LinkedIn and social media
LinkedIn and Instagram show other people's best moments: offers, results, visas, promotions. You see their highlight reel while living your own behind-the-scenes. Studies have linked heavy passive scrolling to worse mood, especially when people compare themselves upwards.
During exams or a job search, notice how you feel after scrolling. If you usually feel worse, set limits: mute accounts that trigger you, turn off notifications, use the apps at set times, or take a break for a week. Remember that people rarely post their rejections, and timelines differ for good reasons: family finances, health, location, field.
Common trapusing others' announcements as a deadline for your own life, which turns their good news into your stress.
