Looking after your mental health

Stage 3 · Lesson 3 of 7

Results day and what comes after

Exam and job-hunt stress

Results can feel like a judgement on your whole worth, especially when family, relatives and classmates are all asking. Decide in advance how you will hear your result: alone, with one person you trust, or at home. If it goes badly, give yourself a day before making big decisions.

A disappointing result is information about one paper on one day, not about your intelligence or future. Most careers have more than one route in, and you can often resit, transfer, take a different path, or show your skills through projects and work.

Be ready with a short answer for relatives, such as "It did not go as I hoped, and I am working on next steps".

Common trapcomparing your marks with others in group chats on the same day, while your feelings are at their strongest.
