Looking after your mental health

Stage 3 · Lesson 4 of 7

Job-hunt stress

Exam and job-hunt stress

Searching for a first job or internship is one of the most stressful periods for many graduates. You send many applications, most get no reply, and each rejection can feel personal. It helps to know that low reply rates are normal for almost everyone, not a sign you are worthless.

Treat the search like a project with a weekly routine: a fixed number of applications, a few messages to people in the industry, some time on skills or projects, and planned time off. Track what you control, the actions you take, rather than only the outcomes you do not. Keep one part of your week that has nothing to do with jobs.

Common trapsearching all day every day, which leads to exhaustion and lower quality applications, not more offers.
